Photos from a Book Signing

Book signings are strange events.

As priorities go, they tend to fall pretty low on everyone’s lists. People are busy, things come up, and it’s just not the kind of thing that most of us circle the date on our calendar to try and remember. If you’re not Steven King or J.K. Rowling, it’s more along the lines of an, “If I’m out and I happen to remember, I’ll drop by” kind of thing. (And very few people do remember.)

This bookstore always sets up authors at a little table facing the front door, so you can see everyone who comes in, and they can see you. Karen and I noticed a funny phenomenon associated with this arrangement. Whenever someone new would walk in — a regular customer, not there for the signing — they almost immediately look in my direction to see what’s going on. But as soon as they see me staring at them, they quickly avert their eyes, and then rush off towards another part of the store.

I told Karen it was like I was an Amway salesman. “Don’t make eye contact! They suck out your soul through the eyes! Run! Run!!”

The store also announced that I was there no less than three times over their P.A. system. In the past it’s only been once. They were nothing but great to me, and it was very sweet of them to try and draw so much attention my way. But I still couldn’t get past how it felt to me very much like the old “Attention, K-Mart shoppers!” ploy. I was today’s blue light special.

Still, we had a perfectly respectable turnout of folks who were terribly excited to read the end of this trilogy. My little boy Evan (6 months old) was unquestionably the star of the show, as you can see from the photos below.

Big love and gratitude to everyone who came!!

Great pictures, Robin. Can’t wait to get a copy and finish up a great trilogy read. Wish I could have come, but a 6 1/2 drive would have been pretty tough. Congrats on finishing the last book and having it available now.

    Robin,

Keep the faith. You’re a very talented writer. Sincerely sorry InFuze didn’t work out. It was a very unique and high-quality product.

    God bless.

    Ben

    Robin,

I started “Merciless” this morning and finished it this evening–it sounds cliche, but it’s true–I couldn’t put it down. Kudos on a job well-done.

I just finished Merciless and I am impressed. The combination of ideas you used in this trilogy was impressive and unique. I really enjoyed the connection to the Bible, the depiction of God, and yet you were able to have action and suspense throughout. Good job.

I suppose it is a long shot at best, and something I do not expect to hear back from you. Still, it is a shot. I read you after being recommended by a customer at the Christian bookstore I work at, and then seeing that Dekker, someone I have read a ton of since Three, made a recommendation for you. I then read Illuminated because you wrote a recommendation for him, but I assume he already had a relatively good foot hold in the industry with his music producing background.
So, with this being said, I humbly ask if you would be interested in reading my own fiction and possibly recommending me to Alive Communications. I finished the piece about a year ago and got it edited and then sent out queries like mad. Unfortunately, it either wasn’t written correctly or I simply haven’t sent out enough. You might understand. My writing is very similar to Terry Brooks and Ted Dekker, but I noticed some scenes in your books that are very similar to my own. Like I said, I dont expect to hear back from you, but I would love to. You can contact me at brocur@yahoo.com. It would be fun just to talk back and forth with you.
